SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY

What is sports therapy?

Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare which specifies in the prevention of injury and offers rehabilitation to ensure full levels of mobility, fitness and pain free movements are maintained. This is offered to all age ranges and also specifies in both sporting and non-sporting individuals. Sports Therapy also offers a Sports Massage option, more information on sports massage is seen below.

About a Sports Therapist

A sports therapist can help maintain your everyday needs with excellent knowledge, ability and skills to provide treatment and rehabilitation for injuries or just simple niggles. Assessment and Treatment is given to individuals who are suffering with ongoing or recent injuries. You may not know the cause of the pain which is causing you discomfort and you may also not participate in sport. However, a sports therapist does not specify in just sporting athletes. Injuries can occur from work, sitting down or just general postural issues which can be related to everyday discomfort.

When should I see a Sports Therapist?

If you currently suffer with pain and discomfort in your shoulder, neck, upper back, lower back, knee, ankle, wrist etc. A sports therapist is your answer, a general assessment will be conducted on the area and treatment given also within that session whether this includes a sports massage, muscle strengthening techniques or mobilisation techniques. These will all have a positive effect and also educate you on the cause of the specific pain, so if you have queries on anything you are unsure about which is causing discomfort don’t hesitate to book in for an appointment.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage is used as a rehabilitation technique however can be given to individuals who feel like they need a general loosen.

Whilst conducting everyday activities such as walking, sitting, standing and lifting all build up tension around the muscles. Over time these muscles become significantly tighter and can cause discomfort and the sensation of pulling.

Sports Massage is used to break down the lesions caused by muscle tightness and is done effectively. This treatment is not just for sports participants, although using the term “sports massage”. It is also effective for individuals who have physical demanding jobs and office based jobs. These can also produce muscle tightness and postural deficits which are similar to those who are sporting individuals.

Sports Massage is a lot deeper and more intense than the general Swedish massage with various techniques incorporated such as; kneading, stretching, compression, friction and also trigger pointing. The sports therapist brings together these techniques and adapts to the pressure on each individual client. Overall, this sports massage will help you with reduced tightness and also full pain free movements.
